2018 Spring Style Edit
Updated: Nov 23, 2018
Now that we’ve booted winter, we’re trading our chunky knits for fringe detailing, asymmetrical necklines, straw hats, polka dots, white suiting, and much more. Miss Terri Shopper is spotlighting the 2018 Spring season’s hottest trends and some favourites.
Don’t be put off my Melania Trump’s latest “Smooth Criminal” look in front of a Sphinx. If winter suiting belonged to the checked palette, then spring suiting is all about creating a clean slate. White suits in Spring 2018 come in all different cuts - from slouchy trousers to spilt ankles, more tailored ankle grazer cuts or flared if you fancy.
In 2018 asymmetric cuts are the answer to the off-the-shoulder trend (which continues to dominate by the way, thanks to the Duchess of Sussex’s love of the bardot cut). But if you’re a little tired of the off-the-shoulder, you’ll be glad to hear there’s a new neckline in town. This off-balanced silhouette drapes on one shoulder or twists around your collarbone, making a statement that’s much bolder than the off-the-shoulder.
While we may not be ready to give to retire our vintage light wash denims with the resurgence of dark denim, we can certainly give it a temporary rest this spring. Dark denim is showing up on the runaways over Spring 2018. This industrial fabric is going all the way doubling up as playsuits and, tuxedos and smart skirt and top co-ords.
From Marilyn Munroe’s itty bitty polka dotted bikini, all the way to 2018, , Polka dots aren’t done just yet (and probably never will be) this spring will see it second best to floral. This print is still spotted on the runways, notably in black and white, white brown and white have also seen a resurrection since Julia Robert’s trackside appearance in Pretty Woman.
This vintage-inspired statement sleeve has gone high fashion in Spring 2018 thanks to Christian Siriano. It’s kind of a throwback to the 80s sculpted shoulders but with the volume turned up! And being one of the most versatile looks this season, it can be paired up with pretty much anything, or worn uber casual or super glam.
Statement Straw Hat
While the straw bag phenomenon continues, its cousin, the straw hat, will join the spring scene in 2018, proving we’ve moved (way far) from the basic beachy panama hat. Wide brim, buckets, bows, tubes and safari styles.. you name it, the straw hat is pulling off almost any cut or colour for that matter. Lightweight and easy to care for, it’s practicality (especially with the Aussie sun) it’s one of my favourite looks this season.
